Choose the room before sharing the code

Voxalike multiplayer is split into Co-op and PVP, and each side has two formats. Decide what kind of session you want before guests install a pack or ready up.

ModeCurrent capHow lines moveBest for
Co-op: Round RobinUp to 12Turns rotate through the cast in orderA relaxed group dub with even participation
Co-op: Claim ModeUp to 12Players claim open linesCharacter casting and flexible groups
PVP: Turn BattleUp to 8Players perform and compare clip by clipWatching each performance together
PVP: Parallel RaceUp to 8Everyone progresses through the full clip listFaster competition with less waiting

Parallel Race arrived in v1.4.1. If someone cannot see it, have the group reload the official game and confirm they are no longer running an older cached build.

Host setup, step by step

  1. Open Voxalike and choose Multiplayer.
  2. Create a private room and select Co-op or PVP.
  3. Pick the exact Dub Pack revision for the session.
  4. Choose Round Robin, Claim Mode, Turn Battle, or Parallel Race.
  5. Copy the room code only after the lobby is ready.
  6. Ask every player to finish Mic Check and pack installation.
  7. Start when every participant shows Ready.

The host should not assume that a Workshop subscription means the files are already present. Subscription status follows an account; installation happens separately in each browser and device. A guest switching from Chrome on a laptop to a different browser may need to install the pack again.

Get every player onto the same Dub Pack

Workshop packs are the easiest multiplayer route. Signed-in guests can subscribe and let Voxalike install the matching revision. Wait for the pack to become playable before pressing Ready.

For a local ZIP, every participant needs the same package, not just a folder with the same display name. Share the original ZIP unchanged and have each guest import that file. If one player edited captions, replaced audio, or repacked the scene, the room may treat it as a different revision.

Use this preflight callout in voice chat:

  • Read the pack title and revision shown in the lobby.
  • Confirm the install is complete, not merely subscribed.
  • Run Mic Check in the same browser tab.
  • Plug headphones in before the first recorded line.
  • Press Ready only after all four checks pass.

Co-op: make one finished dub together

Round Robin is predictable. The room assigns lines around the player order, so everyone knows another turn is coming. It works well when participants are new, when the pack contains many short lines, or when the group wants equal involvement rather than character casting.

Claim Mode is flexible. An open line can be claimed by a player who wants that character or delivery. Agree on a rule before starting: free claim, one-character-per-player, or host-directed casting. Without a rule, fast clickers can accidentally take most of the scene.

Co-op builds one combined result. Keep the room tab visible during the final render and let the host announce when the download is ready.

PVP: compare takes without confusing the format

Turn Battle keeps the room together line by line. It is the better choice when hearing each performance and reacting to it is the main entertainment. The tradeoff is waiting time in a larger lobby.

Parallel Race lets players work through the same full list in parallel. It shortens idle time and makes a larger PVP room feel faster, but players may finish at different moments. Do not close the room when the first person completes the list; the remaining takes still need to reach the result stage.

Score rebalancing and improved multiplayer recording transfer are part of v1.4.1. A Judge Mod can restyle the reveal, but it cannot change the scoring logic or give one player different gameplay.

Fix a lobby that will not start

A player is not Ready

Ask them to reopen Mods and inspect the selected pack. They may have subscribed without completing the browser-local installation. Then run Mic Check again and return to the lobby.

The room says the mod does not match

Workshop users should sync the same revision. Local-package users should delete the mismatched copy and import the original shared ZIP. Renaming the ZIP does not make changed contents identical.

A player has no microphone waveform

Pause the lobby. Fix the browser permission, active input, operating-system privacy setting, or another app taking the device. The microphone troubleshooting guide gives a shortest-first diagnostic order.

A line appears stuck

First allow time for the recording transfer, especially on a slow connection. Avoid reloading several clients at once. If recovery fails, preserve the room code and exact pack revision, then recreate the room with the same format after everyone reloads.

Recover the multiplayer result

Download the completed dub immediately. If the result page is lost after a completed session, Recent Dubs can retain up to two recent multiplayer results for roughly two hours. Recovery depends on the same browser and profile, the exact mod revision, and local data still being present.

Open Recent Dubs, keep the tab visible while the browser rebuilds the file, and save the WebM as soon as it is ready. Treat this as an emergency buffer, not permanent cloud storage.
